Meet Dr. Leon Buffaloe, Jr.
DELIVERING CARE ACROSS THE UPSTATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA FOR OVER 10 YEARS.
Dr. Leon Buffaloe Jr. was born in Washington, DC and raised in PG County Maryland. He left home at the age of 18 to serve his country and became an Army combat medic in 1989. During is 12 years of active duty, Dr. Buffaloe served in Operation Desert Storm during the war in Iraq and Operation Restore Hope during the conflict in Somalia. After his tour to Somalia, Dr. Buffaloe was accepted into the Army’s License Practical Nurse Program and worked in various areas of Nursing.
While on another tour in Honduras in 1999, he met his current wife Asante Buffaloe, an Army Surgical technologist, now a Family Medicine physician. They both decided to end their active duty status to further their career in medicine. Leaving Fort Hood Texas, Dr. Buffaloe joined his wife, who was at the time stationed at Fort Jackson, SC.
He next graduated Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina in 2004 with a degree in Biological studies. Dr. Buffaloe started medical school that same year and graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2008.
Dr. Buffaloe initially studied Internal Medicine to become a nephrologist but while shadowing a private internist in the local community, realized he can do the most good working in the field of primary care. After completing his residency at Palmetto Health Richland, now PRISMA Health Richland, he went to work as an employed physician with SELF Regional in Laurens, SC. Next he moved to the upstate where he would open an outpatient clinic in Simpsonville for PRISMA Health upstate.
After 6 years of employment with PRISMA Health, Dr. Buffaloe felt lead to go out on his own using his more than 30 years of Healthcare experience to start Grace Internal Medicine, an independent practice affiliated with MUSC.

Dr’s Leon and Asante Buffaloe have 4 kids Dominique, Nicholas, Leon III, Naomi, and beagle named CJ. He enjoys time with his family and working in his church.
